John Balcomb
John Balcomb has been a Peer Support Specialist and in administration for over 20 years. He has served as President and Executive Director for the last 8 years and received an award recently for "Eight Years of Outstanding Leadership". John retired in 2002 after 12 years as a business owner in Pinellas County. He was previously the National Sales manager for a manufacturing company in Florida and served on the board of directors of two other local non-profit organizations, as well as the Tampa Bay Health Advisory Board /
The DBS Tampa Bay, Inc. is a state registered 501C (3) non-profit organization. Our support groups are not therapy groups. We do not diagnose disorders or prescribe medications. Diagnosis, prescribing of medication, and therapy are the responsibility of licensed mental health professionals. Our groups provide support to those who are being professionally treated. It is not recommended that an individual with significant depression or other affective disorders merely attend a support group without also seeking professional help. The peer to peer support and conversation provided by our groups has been found to be extremely beneficial to those who are also in a medically accepted mental health treatment plan.
